THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE

THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE is “ a straight forward, no-nonsense, remedial therapy that is non-intrusive, gentle and very effective.”
                                                               (European College of Bowen Studies)
It is unique in that the treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing and it affects the body in ways which promote healing, pain relief, and the recovery of energy. It does not attempt to inflict the will of the therapist or a specific outcome onto the patient.

The Technique is used by many other professional practitioners such as osteopaths, chiropractors, sports therapists and physiotherapists all of whom are continually amazed at the effectiveness of such a simple and gentle form of “ hands on” therapy.

WHAT DOES A TREATMENT INVOLVE?

A BOWEN TECHNIQUE treatment will take approximately 45-60 minutes and most of the work can be performed through light clothing. Two or three treatments, at weekly intervals, are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain although further treatments may sometimes be required.

INCREASINGLY PEOPLE are becoming aware of the need to maintain their body in the same way as they may consider maintaining a vehicle and those with that understanding may choose to return for further treatments as the need arises.

SOME USE THE TECHNIQUE as a means of stress management as well as health maintenance seeing their therapist seasonally or more often as required.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

THE PRACTITIONER uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to make rolling type moves which aim to affect the muscles, tendons,  soft tissues and energy within the body and serve to correct possible dysfunction caused by damage or misuse. Some of these moves generate energetic movement and others block or reflect energetic movement.

The targeted area of the body is isolated so that energy generated there reverberates within the highlighted area. As the practitioner moves over the area muscle tension is reduced, the tissues are given the opportunity to release old patterns of behaviour and the body is assisted to relax and heal.

THE BOWEN MOVES are organised into sets with frequent and important pauses between sets to give the body time to achieve equilibrium. Moves are small and precise but light and gentle on specific points of the body and can be used safely on all ages from the very young to elderly and on the fragile, acute or chronically sick and terminally ill.

DURING THE TREATMENT There are periods in which the client is left resting to allow the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed. This gives the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments needed. The equilibrium produced helps to relieve tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process.
